WHAT YOUR MONEY COULD BUY

The number is only half the story.

An illustration, not a safe-income recommendation. Saving stops at retirement. The first withdrawal is one month later, after that month’s assumed growth and costs. Payments stop when the pot is empty; unmet income is shown as a shortfall. Tax and other income are not included. Returns are assumed constant. Real losses early in retirement can make the pot run out sooner, even with the same average return. Try a lower return and a longer time horizon too.

How the calculator works

This is an educational illustration, not personal advice, a forecast or a product recommendation. It shows the effect of the assumptions you choose, not the benefit of taking advice or joining KPO.

  • Monthly payments are fixed and added at month-end. Your starting amount is invested immediately in the “start now” example. In career mode, payments stop at your selected age; the balance remains invested with no withdrawals in the main comparison. The separate retirement-income section models the withdrawals you choose.
  • The return is a constant effective annual rate, converted to an equivalent monthly rate. Income is reinvested. It is not a historical S&P 500 return or a guaranteed rate.
  • Investment costs default to 0%. When entered, we apply the annual return factor multiplied by one minus the cost rate, then convert to a monthly rate. Your resulting net assumed return is 8.00% a year.
  • “Start later” means no monthly saving during the waiting period. Any starting amount earns the selected cash rate until investing begins. Missed payments are not caught up. The end date is unchanged.
  • The cash example receives the same payments as “start now” and earns the selected cash rate throughout. Cash returns and inflation are held constant.
  • Today’s-money values divide each future balance by cumulative inflation to that year. Headline totals, contributions, the waiting comparison and the goal are in future money unless expressly labelled.
  • The target calculation uses your starting amount, saving years and chosen return and costs. The monthly figure is rounded up. The target ignores retirement withdrawals. No income tax, capital gains tax, currency changes or contribution limits are included.
  • Currency selection changes the unit only; it does not convert values or model country-specific taxes. Results are rounded; small differences may occur.
